ARC ~ Activities Recreation & Care
for Individuals with Developmental Disabilities
Building people & community through programs & activities, while promoting the welfare of individuals with developmental disabilities.
Young Adult Club
The Young Adult Club is strictly social. The club attends concerts, sporting events, movies, dances, shows, plays, amusement parks, and birthday parties at the Center. Just about anything fun! It is supervised by volunteer parents, friends, and staff. While enjoying socialization with friends and great activities, the club’s main emphasis is socially appropriate behavior and community.
Adult Activity Program
The ARC activity program serves adults Monday-
The activity program volunteers at a local senior center once a week, goes bowling, and into a variety of field trips.
Saturday Program
Saturday Program is the original program of ARC. It provides therapeutic recreation and socialization for all age groups. Saturday program is for individual with developmental disabilities who are 16 years old or older. Currently, there are over 100 clients and their families benefiting from this program. The primary goals of this program are to enhance peer relationships through socialization, maintain physical fitness, and assist the clients with community integration and awareness.
Musical Choirs
The ARC English Hand-
The Chime Choir practice weekly for two hours during the Day Program. The choir was developed to extend the opportunity of community outreach to more individuals at ARC.
The purpose of the Hand Bell Choir & Chime Choir is not only to provide artistic expression for the musicians, but also to let the world know that people with developmental disabilities have manyabilities; and that they are ready, willing and able to be part of the community.
Adaptive Living
This residential program began in 1997. These residences provide the opportunity for adults to learn to live on their own, with assistance from ARC Staff.
Tenants continue to make progress in the areas of money management, menu planning and shopping, laundry, banking, cleaning, personal care, safety, and cooperating with roommates and neighbors. We are very proud of the progress they have made in learning the skills necessary to maintain an independent residence.
Camping
Two Residential Camps are major highlights of the late spring & summer. This year the ARC Campers spent four days at Camp Bloomfield in Malibu and four days, again in Malibu, at Hilltop Camp. These trips are filled with swimming, hiking, arts and crafts, campfire skits, trips to the mess hall, softball games, basketball, fun, friendship and life long memories.
